Peru Vacations: Celebrate Chilcano Week
Among the most sought after destinations in the world, Peru has a lot to offer and travelers from all over the world visit this amazing country every year. One of the many attractive characteristics of Peru is of course its world-famous gastronomy. Peruvian cuisine is a true national pride, celebrated by the entire country as often as possible.
Hence the creation in 2010 of the “Chilcano Week”, paying homage to the Chilcano cocktail, made with the reputed national liquor, Pisco. Chilcano Week was started last year by a group of friends willing to make Chilcano the “ambassador of Pisco”. This cocktail, made from Pisco, ginger ale, ice, and a slice of lime, is very easy to prepare and simply delicious.
For the second year in a row, bars and restaurants in Peru celebrated the Chilcano week, featuring the cocktail as their main drink. The event is growing, with the number of venues participating went up from 90 to over 200. According to the organizers, Chilcano is the best cocktail showcasing Pisco as it does not alter its flavor. The ginger ale apparently perfectly blends in with Pisco and enhances its delectable taste.
Chilcano week is the perfect time to get acquainted with Pisco and learn all there is to know about this national Peruvian liquor. Just like the real connoisseurs, sip on this delightful and try to recognize the seven varieties of grape fermented to make each type of Pisco you taste.
It is time to give free rein to creativity. For example, bartenders will top your cocktail with Pisco foam or add flavors with peppers and mint. You will also find ice cream shops selling Chilcano ice cream. As this cocktail is incredibly easy to make, you can also enjoy it at home. Bring some Pisco back from your Peru vacations and give your friends a little taste of Peru!
